How to update your Wyoming voter registration

A voter registration name change in Wyoming is free and usually takes about five minutes. You will likely need to submit an updated paper registration form through the official Wyoming voter registration page.

Update your registration after your Wyoming driver's license shows your new name, since most registration forms ask for your current license number and the name on it.

Every Wyoming step, in the right order

This page covers voter registration. Your free checklist puts it with the other agencies, sequenced for Wyoming, so nothing gets done out of order.

The motor-voter shortcut at the Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT), Driver License Records

Under the National Voter Registration Act ("motor voter"), updating your license at the Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT), Driver License Records usually offers to update your voter registration at the same time. Say yes and you may not need a separate step at all.

One warning: don't assume it worked. Confirmation can lag by weeks, and a mismatch between your ID and the poll book is exactly the kind of surprise you don't want on election day. Verify on the official Wyoming page a couple of weeks after your DMV visit.

Deadlines to know

Wyoming does not offer online voter registration. Register/update by mail (notarized application) or in person at your county clerk's office; mail-in applications must be received at least 14 days before Election Day. In-person registration is also available on Election Day itself at the polls. Must be a resident of Wyoming at least 30 days before the election. The law: Wyo. Stat. § 22-3-102(a). Update well ahead of any upcoming election so your registration reflects your new name at the polls.

If an election is close and you've missed the update window, call your county election office. In many places you can still vote under your former name with your current registration, and some states offer same-day corrections. The rules vary, so ask before you skip voting.

What you'll need

  • Your Wyoming driver's license or state ID (ideally already showing your new name)
  • Your current residential address
  • The last four digits of your Social Security number (some forms)

There is no fee to update voter registration in any state. This step is also a good prompt to update your name with your county property records and jury-duty notices, which pull from the same rolls.

Wyoming FAQs

Wyoming doesn't take a name change online, so you'll likely need to submit a paper registration form. Check the official state page for the current method.

Yes, it's worth doing. Your registration should match your identification, and a mismatch is the kind of surprise you don't want at the polls. If the DMV's motor-voter update carried your name over you may already be covered, but verify rather than assume.
