Follow this sequence in Utah:
- 1. Certified marriage certificate: order copies from the Utah Office of Vital Records and Statistics (Utah Department of Health and Human Services); county clerk for marriages before 1978 or after 2010.
- 2. Social Security (SS-5): free, and always first.
- 3. Wait 24–48 hours for the SSA record to sync.
- 4. Utah Driver License Division (DLD), Utah Department of Public Safety: update your license (the standard license fee (confirm the amount with the agency)).
- 5. Passport: DS-82, DS-11, or DS-5504.
- 6. Voter registration & everyone else: bank, employer, insurers.

Good to know for Utah: Marriage records held by the state cover 1978-2010; for marriages before 1978 or after 2010, order from the county clerk where the marriage occurred instead. Orders can be placed online, by mail, or in person.
